A lesson in balloon sword mortality. We got this balloon from a festival. Jacob enjoyed the heck out of it and surprisingly even lent it out to other kids at the park. They played all day doing what kids do with balloon swords. Later that evening the balloon started to deflate. Slowly shriveling and shrinking into a tiny sword. He started to build a shrine out of pillows and cushions and placed the loosely tied sword carefully in it. He tried to distract himself by playing with other toys, but it grew smaller and smaller through the night. After a certain point he asked me to say some words about the once majestic balloon sword. I said it was a good sword that brought a lot of joy to a lot of people today, but balloons aren’t meant to last a long time. He agreed and quietly walked into his room where he cried for the rest of the night. We’ll miss you white balloon sword.
